Audrey Chadwick spins an excellent tale of intrigue. Dayle and Kellan are helped by two elderly, feisty couples who refuse to let the younger people do all the work or have all the fun. Charlie, Elsie, Fanny, and Waco are part of the heart and soul of the book that helps keep it moving. Usually interactions with them are funny but they have a tremendous amount of courage in the face of danger to their friends. Their quirks and foibles are sure to remind you of someone in your life, past or present. I know it did for me. There's some fantastic dialogue throughout the book and well done scripture references that help open Kellan's eyes to his worth to God no matter what his past.
This is full of great family, small town, and Christian values. The author does a sensitive and eye opening job showing Kel's enlightenment after he shares the horrors of his life with Dayle. Ms. Chadwick also does well as she shares the humanity Dayle feels is a weakness as she goes through a slump in preaching, feeling she's not able to get the message across to her congregation. A tale like this is inspiring as the author makes the characters feel like people we'd like to get to know better. It also is a reminder that no matter what the past God is a forgiving father when we turn away from the things that pull us away from him.
